A Chat With Rising Star Daisy Veacock.

Finn Richardson

Daisy Veacock is carving out a space for herself in the bustling London music scene.

Her unique blend of Pop and Jazz speaks to the heart of urban life, melding personal

experiences with universal themes. With her incisive lyricism, Daisy’s blend of Pop

and Jazz vividly captures the essence of young urban life.

Influenced by Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, and old-school jazz, rhythm and blues, her

style is unique but undeniably ‘Daisy’.

Her breakthrough single 'Pickle Juice' made waves on TikTok in 2022, leading to an unexpected endorsement from 'Branston Pickle'. With the release of her single 'Give It Up (Give Him A Call)', Daisy continues to demonstrate her musical versatility – and has left everyone asking ‘Who’s George?!’

She's recently completed her fourth tour supporting Jools Holland, which included a performance at The Royal Albert Hall in November 2023.

A regular on the London circuit, Daisy is one to watch for 2024.

How would you describe yourself to someone who doesn’t know you?

"The most common comparison I get is Lily Allen who is an icon! What I write is very tongue-in-cheek and recognisably British and is mostly identifiable as pop music, but with lots of jazz and R&B references as well."

Who would you say is your main creative inspiration?

"I think all those wonderful women from the 2000s are always the biggest ones for me. Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Adele to name a few. But I also grew up around Blues music as well as Rock and Roll and Jazz which has always been a massive influence on my writing and musicianship."

How would you say they have influenced some of your most recent work, if so?

"The current music I’m producing is definitely more technical, and I’ve started pushing myself out of my comfort zone more and more which has definitely developed my skills as a songwriter but also a guitarist and vocalist. We’ve also got a 6 piece band now including a horn section which although financially is probably a nightmare in most music industry books, it is SO much fun to perform live and I think it brings it back to the influences of big bands and jazz that I love so much."

What piece of your work are you most proud of?

"I’m so proud of the body of work I'm creating at the moment, but something about the ‘Give It Up (Give Him A Call)’ era will always hold a special place in my heart. Honestly, I just love the stories I hear from people when they connect with this song. I still haven’t met the real George the song is about but by the sounds of it there’s plenty of George’s running about being menaces and I think that is hilarious."

If you could pick any brand or creative to work with, who would it be?

"At the moment a Tesco collab would be very handy. I could be collaborating with the biggest artist in the world and I guarantee I’d still be eating a Tesco meal deal for lunch."

Do you have a memorable time in your music career?

"I don't think anything matches up to how incredible playing at The Royal Albert Hall was. That room is just so beautiful and vast that you can’t process it until after you come off stage. I remember standing in the top gallery once we finished and thinking ‘WOW, we just played in here, that’s insane!"

Is there much you can tell us about the next 6 months, any upcoming projects?

"The next six months are busy busy busy. I’m playing my first fezzie season which is super exciting and I’m finishing up a project for the end of the year that’s been in the making for a very long time. In short, I think I might have to go into hibernation by the end of the year, but it’s going to be amazing."

In the creative space, who are 3 people who deserve more recognition?

"I know so many brilliant creatives who are up and coming in music right now, this is so hard to choose. Liang Lawrence is an exceptional writer who always really moves me when I watch her sing. My very good friend Natsuma is always a go-to choice, her skill as a musician but also a writer will never cease to amaze me. I’ve been enjoying Lexie Caroll’s new stuff as well, she’s working towards a new EP and her new tracks are some big tunes!"

With Daisy continuing to excel within the musical scene she has a very big summer coming up. Including a notable performance at Glastonbury and a new single "Float Right Back To You." out on the 21st of June.

Be sure to go and stream her new single on all streaming platforms!
